What is a Libation?

The Remedy Approach

Before I Had the Language, My Soul Already Knew

After the passing of my Nana when I was 15, I found that my inspirience of grief was rooted in the deep disappointment of not having a chance really truly get to know her. On my own volition, I started releasing balloons as a practice of honor and remembrance each year when her birthday came around.

As I look back it is clear that no one taught me the cultural and spiritual practice of ancestral veneration. I more so uncovered it from the memories stored deep down in my own old soul.

Libation: A Ceremony of Water & Intention

In this excerpt from the Grand Opening of the Carnegie Heritage Center, I am spotted facilitating a live libation ceremony centered on honoring The Most High Creator, those now in the ancestral realm and the community’s intentions for those who will come after.

Traditionally, a libation is the ceremonial pouring of liquid as an offering to the divine. Within many African cultural practices, libation serves as a sacred bridge between the physical and spiritual realms used as a tool to invite guidance, protection, and connection with the spirit of those who have came before us.

As with everything I do, I provide my own adaptation which filters the practice of libation through my signature REMEDY Methodology. In this way I integrate rhythm, breath, and balance into a living community experience inviting all to connect and participate.

Using water as a symbolic offering, I create space to:
Offer honor and acknowledgment for the deeds, efforts and bricks laid by those who have come before us.
Facilitate a moment for the whole group to ground into the present through collective and intentional breath
Sow seeds that activate the future by facilitating spoken community intention

As you see through my facilitation, participants are invited to plant seeds through spoken words of intention for healing, growth, and collective alignment which I then ceremonially water to close the ritual, symbolizing collective power we hold to shape our experience of the life garden now and for those yet to come.

This experience reflects my broader work in community wellness facilitation, where rhythm-based engagement, breath-centered grounding, and intentional dialogue are used as tools for emotional restoration, cultural remembrance, and collective healing.

Through music, storytelling, and embodied ritual, The REMEDY Methodology invites communities into deeper connection with self, legacy, and shared purpose.

Steps Ahead

As the season of spring shifts us into more seeds, sun and potential to grow. I’d like to leave you with a question for your own reflection.

What seeds are you currently planting in your life garden and in what ways are you watering them with your aligned thoughts and actions?

I’d love to read your answers in the comments.

Until Next Time,

Peace and Power Dear Soul :)
