Core Memories
When I was 8 years old, my Father took my younger brother and I, on a journey to secure a church home. He expressed candedly that although he was indeed our father, he insisted it was time to introduce us to the Master. We tried a few churches where the vibes weren’t quite a good fit, but as the Creator would have it our journey had a sweet solution in store. My dad has a beautiful voice and would often sing while working so one day his coworker, Mr. Tony Whelchel invited him to come sing at Hickory Grove CME -a church upon a hill in Dahlonega Ga led by his father, Reverend W.L. Whelchel.
I was a member until I graduated college and moved to NY. As a member, I sang in the children’s, junior and senior choir and paid my tithes on the income of my blooming modeling career while I deep dived into the gospel with the helpful guidance of Rev. Whelchel. Personally, I’ve always interpreted Jesus’ teachings as tools each receiver is charged to embody and apply rather than just worship or praise. Even to my young mind I felt praise without practice was fruitless.(James 2:26)

While in college, I started to tune into my first authentic history courses which allowed me to explore the greatness of the ancestors prior to the Americas. My findings within the African American Studies department awakened my childhood affinity for the accomplishments, art, and offerings of Alkebulan (Africa) as expressed through her many dynasties of Kemet - commonly referred to as Egypt. I was led to observe how the ancestors had such a deep connection with the Creator and reverence for the myriad of expressions within creation. This led me to acknowledge the spiritual principles these ancestors left upon the many scrolls and temple walls - principles which served as the bedrock for such an intelligent and creative civilization.
My seeking took me to the 42 Laws of MAAT which I felt was closely related with my knowing of the 10 commandments. I also learned more about the myth of Ausar and Auset through The Book of Coming Forth by Day where I found journey of Heru to align in some ways with the story and journey of Jesus.
Often times when I would communicate my findings through scholarship to leaders in the church, I would be met everything from full on hostility to deep concern. One Pastor even told me not to question God.
After much meditation over the course of a few years I remember sitting down with my dad and confessing that I honor God, I honor Jesus and I am choosing to answer the inner call to continue to explore the rich cultural and spiritual history of black people throughout all the diaspora.
My Daily Bread
Everyday, I create time to quietly reflect with the Source and meditate on the word as I am intuitively guided. This practice is one part of my daily R.E.M.E.D.Y. regimen As I have grown to wombanhood, my walk with Most High has grown to reflect my explorations of the diverse spiritual history of black folk.In my seeking, I have found wisdom in my explorations of the IFA traditions where Most High is known as Oludumare, The Tao Te Ching where Most High is known as The Way and The Medu Neter where Most High is often referred to as NTR. I find inspiration with lectures by scholars like Asa G Hilliard, Yosef Ben-Jochannan, and Dr. Francis Cress Welsing. Favorites within my personal library include; Sacred Woman by Queen Afua, The 11 Laws of God by Ra Un Nefer Amen and The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz. Even as I am writing this my new living translation of The Holy Bible is open to 1 Peter chapter 2 with a highlight on verse 9.
The Remedy
I suppose if you have to label me by your perception of my personal walk with the Source, you would find it to be quite challenging. Allow me to help you out as I recently learned about the concept of syncretism and I felt it reflected my ability to see the glory of God through many lenses. This multi-lense view supports me as I commune with God’s children of all ages, cultures, and creeds - beyond the perceptions of denominational or dogmatic boundaries. We each have been gifted life by a something - I choose to call this something The Most High, The Master, The Great Creator and more. How you choose to use this gift and walk with this something is your choice. I just want to thankh you for allowing me to share a peek into my walk with the Master - a walk that has shown thus far to be limitless.
The Take Away
I will only have a limited time in this body this lifetime so while I am here, I will injoy my personal journey with The Great Creator of all things.
To conclude this article, allow me to share a quote from a card I received at a retreat where I was blessed to harmoniously commune with wombs from many walks of faith.
I follow what feels right within me, without needing validation from others. We are all on our own journey, and mine does not need to look like anyone else’s. My injoyment and satisfaction is validation enough.
Thankh you for choosing to tune into today's article dear soul. I hope seeds from my life experience can be helpful as you get groovy within your life garden.
