The Tools
Of all the skills I have aquired, I can say that learning how to read and write are two skills for which I am most grateful. I am blessed by my mother who taught me and for both her and my father for weaving the importance of education into my upbringing. I have grown to use these skills to pour my creativity into books, poems, award winning song lyrics and occasional cool and catchy social media captions.
I’m certain that the words we use reflect our thoughts and grant us the power to shape our experience of this thing we call life. But more importantly, I find the words we use within and about our self hold the lion’s share of power over our health, happiness and well-being.
…for sounds make up words, and words are thoughts. Ideas. And the thoughts and ideas in your head make you what you are. - Marva Collins
As youngins we are often told to believe in ourselves and that anything is possible. However, take a look at this excerpt from my first book and allow me to share one of my first encounters with a common and contagious disease. A disease that slipped its way into my idea of my self.
Can you Relate?
Have you ever found yourself just starting to explore a creative avenue only to feel halted by the slightest criticism? Conversely, have you ever had someone instantly ignite your confidence with a loving word of encouragement? Though I have experienced both sides of the spectrum, my journey has brought me to the knowing that ultimately it matters not what another says about me or my abilities. In fact, it doesn’t even matter what I say unless my words match the thoughts and feels I hold within.
A Nu Approach
As I embrace a lifestyle of healing, I find that sharing my story and reflections opens my view to see how so many of us are facing the same challenges. I also find time and time again that if left unchecked, the disease of doubt can seep into our self image and keep us from applying action to our creative insights. The first step I took to deliver myself from doubt included the process of a long pause which I used to deepen my authenticity and upgrade my approach to life. Now, if I feel unsure about myself, I take notice, acknowledge and accept it. Next I sooth my soul with verses of encouragement and mantras of truth which I repeat to direct my feelings and thoughts to outcomes I truly desire - instead of familiar and painful ones I may fear repeating.
The choice is yours
I share this article in hopes that you can find value and solidarity in my victory. Perhaps you will feel inspired to devote yourself to thoughts and feels that are true and worthy of your attention. Be encouraged to dream on and no matter the type of life you choose to create, Don’t Doubt that you have everything you need to create a wonderful one - now.
until next time,
Peace and Power Dear Soul :)
