Lately, I've been feeling like I hit the jackpot. Like I'm on a roll of wonderful. I have been deeply appreciative of the experiences I have been invited to participate in, and the connections I have been afforded which inspire me to be the higher me. A couple of Sundays ago, I was blessed to facilitate two experiences that provided nourishment for the community. The first was an experience entitled, Ascension. The second was a community drum circle I facilitated within the historic space now known as The Clearing House Savannah.
Ascension was birthed from the hearts and minds of my sisters Ayana and Amber. The experience features a guided yoga flow and fellowship beneath the beautiful canopy of Live Oaks within Daffin Park. My sister in service, Leo, guided us through the movement and I supported the experience by facilitating the Libations and playing medicinal drum and crystal bowl music during the flow.
I'm certain that any yogini or dancer will agree that movement is prayer and I must say it was delightful to witness and support so many beautiful souls who decided to get up, get out and get moving with us. Each time I looked up from my drum, I could see more people joining the circle and it felt so good.
You know, Ascension means to be elevated to a status. And truly I feel that I have been elevated to a nu status of leadership in this cycle of life. Whether I am with the youth in the classroom, on stage with my soul songs or in the circle with my drum, I enjoy the best occupation in the world -to I simply praise the Most High and tell my neighbor all about the experiences and revelations this position abundantly provides.
Always in Service
I told someone recently that no matter who I'm in a deep conversation with its always gonna give church. Somehow the connection will get around to our relationship with God and the principles that connection maybe currently sharpening in our spirit. I thankh God that grew up in the church and was taught to honor the gospel as expressed in the holy Bible. I also praise God for providing wholeness as I deepen my knowledge of IFA and my Akan brothers and sistars who even today retain a great deal of language and spiritual practices from our ancient Kemetic and Nubian ancestors. When I look back at those who came before me and pour water to honor them, I am reminded of just how divinely diverse the blood line of mine is. It has put me in a deep space of reflection about how my personal flow serves the community especially those comming up behind me. And as I reflect, I feel called to lead this life like a lighthouse, providing illuminating guidance for those tossed by the waves of life and seeking solid ground. I also feel called to lead this life like a bridge, holding a connecting space of oneness and reverence for all systems of belief that honor The Way.
Life is a Circle
When I facilitated the Libations for Ascension I shared a mantra with the group that just so happens to be a favorite amongst the youth at Susie King Taylor Community School. Today I will to share it with you to place upon your own altar of reflection.
I get what I give
I get what I give
As long as I live
I get what I give
If I give love, then I get love
As long as I live, I get what I give.
