The Art Story
The Divine Current invites you to ask yourself, What wisdom have I gained from Grandmother? The image presents the moon traversing through one of her 8 phases in balance with the treasure filled waters she governs. Just above the waves one can see the adornments of 10 cowry shells offering symbolism of the value and completion that wisdom provides. Known to Indigenous peoples as the Grandmother, the moon reflects the phases of our wholeness as her glow guides us to and through the darkness of night.
As we observe the United States, we see a society that is often too focused on the yang side of things. With people deeply tied into a hustle and bustle of tasks, over dependent on stimulants like coffee and energy drinks, and constantly attacking skyscrapers of responsibility only to rush into deadlines. While in this state, we neglect, suppress, and forget the wisdom we can absorb within the waters of the yin. Let us remember, the water is more than a maid here to cleanse our body and clothes, cook us a meal, and flush away our waste while we negligently push past her to our goals.
In reality, the very money that we work so hard for and use to illustrate & measure value is often described as cash flow, currency, and liquid assets - each terms that point to the flow, sea, and liquid nature of water.
The very water that Most High designed Grandmother Moon to govern.
When we sit quietly with her, we remember that Grandmother is integral to the tides and balance of life present in our rivers, lakes and oceans. Each body of water brimming with life forms and resplendent in treasures known only to those courageous enough to surrender and submerge into her knowings.
Her essence is key in the circle of life’s continuation. She shares this fact of life with each of our familial Grandmothers as their sheer existence has contributed to our arrival to this present moment. Like our emotions, the tides of life can seem overwhelming and challenging to navigate at times. Yet even in the darkest hour, may we find rest and guidance as we choose to honor the authority God granted our Grandmother and absorb her wisdom through the divine current.
